Numbers 1 to 8 Wheel

Spin to land on a random number from 1 to 8, each with an equal one in eight chance. Built for eights: lanes, brackets, tables and eight-player games.

Fair by design: each spin draws from your browser’s cryptographic random number generator, giving every entry an equal 1-in-8 chance. No server is involved.

One entry per line. 8 entries on the wheel.

About the Numbers 1 to 8 Wheel

This wheel comes pre filled and ready to spin. Give it a whirl as is, or edit the entries in the box to make it your own. Every slice has equal odds, so the result is fair each and every time. When the wheel stops, the pointer at the top marks the winning slice.

Nothing you spin is uploaded anywhere. The Numbers 1 to 8 Wheel runs entirely in your browser, and you can save your edits to your own device. When you want your visitors to spin the same wheel, copy the embed code under the wheel and drop it onto your page.

Eight is the number of brackets and lanes. Swimming heats and sprint finals run eight lanes, knockout tournaments seed eight players a side, and plenty of board games top out at eight around the table. This wheel assigns any of those slots fairly: spin for a lane draw, for which quarter-final pairing kicks off the evening, or for which of eight tables presents first. Each slice holds an equal one in eight chance, 12.5 percent, on every spin, and every spin is independent, so a number that just came up is exactly as likely next time. It also stands in for a d8 when the dice bag is elsewhere, though tabletop players get more from the dedicated d8 roller, which can roll several dice and add them up. As always, edit the entries to rename slots or trim the count, and the odds rebalance instantly.

The odds on this wheel

There are 8 slices, all the same size, so a given slice wins one spin with probability 1 ÷ 8 = 12.5%. Every spin is independent of the one before it, which means no result is ever due: after ten spins without a particular slice, the chance on the eleventh is still 12.5%.

Across several spins the maths follows the complement rule. The chance of a given slice coming up at least oncein ten spins is 1 − (1 − 1/8)10 = 73.7%. Edit the entry list and every figure here recomputes, because they are derived from the wheel rather than written down beside it.

Frequently asked questions

What can I use a random number from 1 to 8 for?

Classic eights: drawing swimming or sprint lanes, seeding an eight-player bracket, picking one of eight tables or teams, or standing in for a d8 in a tabletop game.

Does the 1-8 wheel have the same odds as a d8?

Yes, both give every number a one in eight chance, 12.5%. For rolling several dice at once with totals, the dedicated d8 roller is the better fit.

Can I rename the numbers to lane or player names?

Yes. Replace the digits in the entry box with names or labels and the wheel picks among them with the same equal odds per slice.
